A Brief History of HR, And a Tribute to Those He Served With in WWII. HR began experimenting and perfecting his chili recipe beginning as a young man in his 20's, then wrote it down for his family in 1957, a decade after his service as an Army enlisted man during WWII. He did talk about preparing his chili in the field for his buddies with whatever supplies he could scrounge up. HR fought ashore at Omaha Beach, France, on D-Day with Bradley's 1st Army. He moved through France as a K9 Corps handler with his Wardog Bruce. When they marched north from Paris to Belgium, sadly but heroically, Bruce was killed saving HR's life while defending a U.S. Field Headquarters from a night attack by elite enemy paratroopers. HR was then transferred to Patton's 3rd Army as a Combat Engineer. Again, HR fought his way through the Battle of The Bulge, then went on to build the bridge at Remagen across the Rhine River into Germany to carry Allied Troops forward. We at Penn Outdoors are honored to remember and salute HR, those he served with, and all that have worn the United States Military Uniform, be it WWII veterans, or those who preceded him, and those honored Military Veterans and their families having served yet today! A personal note from Rob: In addition to those who served in wartime, like my father, I decided to add the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to our giving effort, serving those members of the First responders community who also served us by their sacrifice.
Most everyone I know has someone who suffered loss from the attacks on 9/11. Like my neighbor and friend, Steven Coakley, FDNY, who gave his life when Tower II fell. It is my privilege to honor all our hero's in my small way.
